THE EDUCATIONAL OFFER

COI has always focused its attention on the training of health personnel.

For our projects we always rely on volunteers and operators adequately prepared and trained for the type of intervention they are going to carry out.

For this reason the partnership between COI and the University of Turin was born. This institutional collaboration between NGO and University is an absolute innovation in dentistry and it allows students, volunteers and operators to have a wide and complete overview of oral health around the world and of the intervention methods to promote the development of oral health.

2000

In order to meet training needs, in 2000 COI, in collaboration with the University, created the European Centre for Intercultural Training in Oral Health (ECITOH), a centre for training and research in the field of oral health oriented mainly towards the reality of disadvantaged communities, and based on the principles of interculturality, knowledge exchange and international cooperation.

Its aim is the promotion of oral health in disadvantaged communities and developing countries through training and research.

It is addressed to volunteers and operators, interested in integrating their curriculum with excellent training, and to Institutions and Organizations interested in research programmes in the field of advanced training and international cooperation in the field of oral health.

2005

In 2005 COI created, again in collaboration with the University of Turin, the Observatory of Oral Health of Disadvantaged Communities with the aim of:

• Monitoring oral health conditions in disadvantaged communities in the Piedmont Region;
• Becoming a centre of excellence, through its own outpatient clinic located in the COI headquarters, for oral health problems identified by the various social volunteering organizations operating in the area;
• To study and propose to institutions and to private – social entities methodologies, technologies and procedures to provide a sustainable response to the need for oral health, which is increasingly present among the most vulnerable segments of our society.

2006

In 2006, the First-level Master’s Degree in “Development of oral health in disadvantaged communities and developing countries” was created.
